“By laughing at me, the audience really laughs at themselves, and realizing they have done this gives them sort of a spiritual second wind for going back into the battles of life.”

WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Hebrews 12:14-15 (NIV®)

Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

REFLECTION

HAVE COURAGE TO OVERCOME THE BITTERNESS IN YOUR HEART

A root of bitterness can be the obstacle that keeps us from living in peace, being holy, and showing concern for the spiritual condition of our neighbours. Sometimes, we feel our bitterness is justified. We point to someone’s wrong behavior and say, “That person’s behavior gives me the privilege of being resentful and angry.” I have come to understand this response to life as a luxury. I’m not justifying the behavior of the offender; I’m simply saying this sense of entitlement is destructive and will choke the purposes of God in your life. I invite you to not extend that luxury to yourself. I invite you to have the courage to say, “God, I’ve been angry and embittered. I’ve been unforgiving and filled with resentment. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” If you’ll take these simple steps of obedience, it will change the course of your life.

COURAGE OVER ENTITLEMENT

HAVE COURAGE TO OVERCOME THE BITTERNESS IN YOUR HEART

THINK ABOUT IT

The scripture says a bitter root grows, causes trouble, and defiles many. Let’s treat it like the enemy it is. Forgiveness pulls it up from its taproot.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I choose to honor You with my heart, mind, soul, and body. I choose to forgive others as You have forgiven me—I set them free today. I lay down my anger, resentment, bitterness, and hatred. May I use every breath to honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROVERB FOR TODAY

“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favour from the LORD.”

WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

“And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”

MOTHER BASILEA SCHLINK’S ATTITUDE FOR TODAY

"Always do more than others ask of you-and your heavenly Father will bestow upon you a double portion of His goodness."
