WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

1 Samuel 23:4 (NIV®)

“Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him.”

REFLECTION

ONE-SIDED CONVERSATIONS MUST BE FRUSTRATING FOR GOD

Have you ever been on the receiving end of a “one-sided conversation”? The other person talked so much that you didn’t have much opportunity to respond or even make a comment. Those one-sided conversations must be frustrating for God. We often go to Him with a list of things we want Him to do, and that is a part of prayer. But as much as prayer is about talking to God, prayer is equally about listening to God. David knew the Lord could help him, so he waited for His answer and received one. The times we invest in prayer should include time to listen, or we will be forfeiting a great deal. In those quiet times when we’ve turned off the distractions and turned our attention toward Him, we are better able to hear Him and receive from Him. I urge you to plan your prayer times to include both talking and listening.

MONOLOGUE OR CONVERSATION?

ONE-SIDED CONVERSATIONS MUST BE FRUSTRATING FOR GOD

THINK ABOUT IT

We have the privilege of spending time with Almighty God, and we don’t want to dominate it with a one-sided conversation.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, give me listening ears and an attentive heart. I desire to know You and offer myself as a learner—a child hungry to understand. Teach me to have healthy and effective conversations with You so my life may be pleasing in Your sight, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
