WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

John 1:43 (NLT®)

“The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.””

REFLECTION

WHEN JESUS CALLED PEOPLE TO FOLLOW HIM, HE DIDN’T GIVE THEM MANY DETAILS

Once upon a time when you were required to write a paper, you may have been instructed to cover the Five W’s: who, what, when, where, and why. I approach much of life like that, too. Whether it’s a trip, or a building project, or a special event, I like to know the details before I take the first step. One of the hardest things for me to do as a Christian is to follow God when I don’t have all the information in front of me. But when Jesus called people to follow Him, He didn’t give them many details. He just said, “Follow Me,” and they made life-changing decisions on that simple invitation. He didn’t show them what would happen along the journey, or how their lives would change, or how He would use them to change the world. I believe Jesus is calling us to follow Him with that same child-like faith. We don’t have all the answers, but we do know we can trust Him with the future. That’s enough information for me.

THINK ABOUT IT

How do you feel about saying yes to God’s invitations without knowing exactly where He will take you? Are you willing to extend your hand and say, “Lord, I'll follow wherever You lead”?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness and inviting me to follow Jesus. Grant me a willing spirit with the strength and courage to finish the course You have marked out for me. May my words and actions bring honor to the name of Your Son. In His name, Amen.
