WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV®)

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”

REFLECTION

GOD SENT HIS SON INTO THAT PLACE OF DARKNESS AND DESPAIR TO REDEEM US

Have you ever received a gift you were not very excited about? If you were raised by polite parents, as I was, you were trained to smile and say thank you—even if you had two just like it in the closet! One gift we should be truly thankful for is the gift of life offered to us through Jesus’ death on the cross. In spite of what we may think—”I was just a little kid,” or “I wasn’t that bad”—Jesus rescued us from the domain of darkness. Sometimes, we're a little guilty of looking back into the shadows and thinking, “I had a pretty good time over there.” But the reality is, we were in a place that was depraved, immoral, and wicked. We were destined for eternal punishment, and God sent His Son into that place to redeem us. Because of that, I serve Him gladly and gratefully. I will not be reluctant or embarrassed. It is a privilege and an honor to bear the name of Jesus. For the rest of my life, I will say, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”

THINK ABOUT IT

Ask God to continually open the eyes of your understanding to the magnitude of the great gift of Jesus.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I rejoice in Your great gift of Jesus and in my salvation. May my life bring glory to Your Son and the words of my mouth exalt Jesus each day. Allow my years to become an offering of thanksgiving to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen.
