WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Colossians 1:19-20 (NIV®)

“God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

REFLECTION

GOD WAS PLEASED THAT JESUS SHED HIS BLOOD ON THE CROSS

Paul says God was pleased that Jesus shed His blood on the cross. That’s an awkward statement, isn’t it? We’ve heard He is a God of love, mercy, grace, and compassion—and He is! But we need the middle part of this passage to complete the picture: It was the outcome of the cross that pleased God. God was pleased that, through Jesus, He was reconciled to all things. Through the cross, something powerful happened for humanity. Everything changed, and the purposes of God burst forth in a new way. The cross still changes everything. We come to the cross one way and leave differently. When we acknowledge Jesus of Nazareth as God’s Son, the Holy Spirit begins to reveal what was made available to us through Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. The cross does more than change our language and lifestyle. It brings complete transformation of our body, soul, and spirit.

GOD WAS PLEASED THAT JESUS SHED HIS BLOOD ON THE CROSS

THINK ABOUT IT

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, our lives are never the same. He makes all the difference!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, grant me a revelation of Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross that is more real than any shame, rejection, sickness, or sin. Thank You for Your grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I choose to live for Your purposes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
