WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

REFLECTION

IN CHRIST JESUS WE ARE A NEW CREATION

In biblical teaching, being a new creation means that when a person comes to Christ, they undergo a spiritual transformation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come." This signifies that believers are no longer defined by their past sins, failures, or worldly identity. Instead, through faith in Christ, they receive a new spiritual nature, empowered by the Holy Spirit to live a life that pleases God. This transformation is not just about self-improvement but about a complete renewal in Christ, where old sinful desires fade, and a new heart that seeks righteousness emerges.

Eternal life is the gift of God to all who believe in Jesus Christ. John 3:16 explains that this life is not just about living forever but about having a restored relationship with God. John 17:3 clarifies, "Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent." Eternal life begins the moment a person places their faith in Jesus, as they are spiritually reborn into God’s family. It is not merely a future hope but a present reality that reshapes how believers live, filling them with peace, purpose, and assurance of their destiny with God.

This new life comes with a calling to serve. As new creations, believers are entrusted with the mission of spreading God’s love and truth. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 states that God has given us the "ministry of reconciliation," calling us to be His ambassadors. This means sharing the message of salvation, serving others selflessly, and living in a way that reflects Christ. True service is not just about doing good deeds but about fulfilling God’s purpose—helping others experience His love, grace, and truth through our words and actions.

ETERNAL LIFE AND A NEW PURPOSE

IN CHRIST JESUS WE ARE A NEW CREATION

THINK ABOUT IT

As a Christian, becoming a new creation through being born again means embracing a transformed life. Here are six key things we should ponder on and build into our new life: 1. A Deep Relationship with God – Growing in faith means prioritizing prayer, worship, and reading the Bible. Matthew 22:37 says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." A strong relationship with God shapes our thoughts, decisions, and purpose. 2. Renewing the Mind with God’s Word – As a new creation, we must think differently and align our minds with God’s truth. Romans 12:2 teaches, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Meditating on Scripture helps us resist sin and grow spiritually. 3. Living by the Spirit, Not the Flesh – Our new life is led by the Holy Spirit, not by worldly desires. Galatians 5:16 instructs, "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh." This means choosing righteousness over sin and developing spiritual disciplines. 4. Cultivating Christlike Character – As followers of Christ, we should strive to develop the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Our actions should reflect God’s grace. 5. Serving Others with Love – Being born again calls us to a life of service. Mark 10:45 says, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve." True Christian living involves selfless love, caring for the needy, and sharing the Gospel. 6. Keeping an Eternal Perspective – Our new life is not just about the present but also about eternity. Colossians 3:2 urges, "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." As believers, we must focus on God's kingdom, knowing that our true home is with Him forever. Building these principles into our lives will help us grow in faith and fulfill God’s purpose as His new creation.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for making me a new creation in Christ. Thank You for the gift of salvation and the transformation You are working in me. Lord, I surrender my life to You and ask that You establish these six key things in my heart, mind, and daily walk. Draw me closer to You, O God. Let my relationship with You be the foundation of my life. Give me an unquenchable hunger for Your presence, a deep desire for Your Word, and a heart that seeks You above all else. Teach me to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind, that I may live in intimacy with You every day. Renew my mind with Your truth. Guard me against the lies of this world and transform me through the power of Your Word. Help me to meditate on Your promises, think on what is pure and righteous, and reject anything that draws me away from Your perfect will. Let my thoughts align with Your thoughts, so I may walk in wisdom and discernment. Holy Spirit, lead me. I surrender my fleshly desires and ask that You guide me in every step I take. Strengthen me to walk by the Spirit, that I may resist temptation and live a life that honors You. Fill me with Your power, O Lord, and help me to bear fruit that reflects Your holiness. Shape me into the image of Christ. Develop in me the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Remove anything in me that does not reflect Your character, and refine me into a vessel of honor for Your glory. Teach me to serve with love. Open my eyes to the needs of those around me and fill my heart with compassion. Use me, Lord, to be Your hands and feet in this world. May I never seek my own glory, but serve with humility, generosity, and a heart that reflects Your love for all people. Fix my heart on eternity. Help me to keep my mind set on things above, not on earthly distractions. Remind me that my true home is with You and that my purpose is to bring glory to Your name. Let me live with urgency, sharing the Gospel and making an impact for Your Kingdom, knowing that what I do for Christ will last forever. Lord, I trust that You are faithful to complete the work You have started in me. Strengthen me each day, and let my life be a living testimony of Your grace and power. I give You all the glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen!
