WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY
Mark 4:18-19 (NLT®)
“The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.”
REFLECTION
WEALTH WILL DISTORT OUR PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE
Jesus describes a person who hears God’s Word but allows it to be crowded out by other things, including the desire for wealth and material things. I was reminded of this when I read that Americans are not very concerned about our national security because when there is uncertainty or tragedy, we go shopping or to a restaurant. Our abundance allows us to buy and eat our way out of our anxiety and gives us a false sense of security. The Bible says wealth is a blessing from God. But it also says wealth will distort our perspective on life. I’ve been with wealthy people when they’ve received a devastating diagnosis, and all the money in the world will not hold back the challenges that are coming. So, let’s not be deceived by our abundance. Thank God for it, but don’t allow it to diminish your dependence on Him.

GOD’S TRANSFORMER
WEALTH WILL DISTORT OUR PERSPECTIVE ON LIFE
Ask the Lord to reveal anything or anyone you rely on more than you depend on Him—for life, security, blessing, abundance. Then, commit to trusting Him alone.

Heavenly Father, help me clear the thorns, brambles, and weeds of my life to cultivate a more fertile place for You to plant seeds of righteousness. I want Your Word to land in good soil, ready to bring forth much good fruit for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
