WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY
Isaiah 61:1 (NIV®)
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
REFLECTION
WE HAVE ALL STRUGGLED WITH PERIODS OF SPIRITUAL POVERTY
Sometimes, we can get so down on ourselves it’s hard for us to believe anyone—especially God—could care about us. Most of the people I know have gone through some season when they felt alone, or brokenhearted, or held captive in particular way. Some of us have experienced financial poverty, but all of us have struggled with periods of spiritual poverty. One of the Devil’s lies is that we have to carry these burdens alone. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Jesus came for the poor, the broken, and the captives. He came for you and me—not the shiny facades we present to the world, but the bruised and battered parts of ourselves we try to hide. When you are struggling to feel worthy of care and concern, remember this: Jesus came for you, and His blood has redeemed you.

Even as you are reading this, His Spirit is at work within you and interceding for you.

Heavenly Father, I choose to give You first place in my life. Alone, I am powerless over the forces arrayed against me. Help and strengthen me—I trust Your guidance. I rejoice in Your provision for my complete salvation. You are my Rock and my Redeemer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
