Quote for Today

“It is no more narrow to claim that one religion is right than to claim that one way to think about all religions is right.”

WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Exodus 4:1-2 (NIV®)

“Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The LORD did not appear to you’?” Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.”

REFLECTION

MOSES FELT UNSUITED AND UNPREPARED FOR THE JOB GOD HAD INVITED HIM TO DO

Moses felt unsuited and unprepared for the job God had invited him to do. What in his background qualified him to lead God’s people out of slavery and into the land God had promised them? He had no experience in leading people. Although his early years had been spent in the palace, his current job title was shepherd. Moreover, he protested to the Lord that he was not a good speaker. So, what did God use to prove He could work through Moses? His staff—the wooden stick Moses used to guide and protect his flock. What is in your hands that you can use to show God’s love for people? A hammer and nails to help with home repairs? Pots and pans to prepare meals for people in need? Think about your skills and hobbies and how they can be used to share God’s love. God is asking each of us, “What is that in your hand?”

THINK ABOUT IT

What skills and resources do you have that can be used to help others and serve God?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You have called and equipped me for Your purposes. Help me recognize and hone the skills and abilities You have given me. May I consistently and humbly acknowledge You have given them to me to use for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
