HEBREWS

Many Jewish believers, having been converted into Christianity were in danger of returning to Judaism because of the persecution they were suffering from their countrymen. The writer of Hebrews, urges them to “press on” to maturity in Christ. His appeal is based on the superiority of Christ over the Jewish system. Christ is better than the angels, because they worship Him. He is better than Moses, because Moses was created by Him. He is better than Aaron’s priesthood, because His sacrifice was once for all time. He is better than the Law, because He makes a better promise. In short, there is more to be gained by suffering for Christ than going back to Judaism.
