The 4th command Jesus gave was – Let Your Light Shine
November 5, 2019
Bible Teaching for Today
“"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.””
“After ridding our lives from darkness, with God’s help, we will have a brightness in our lives that will be noticeable to other people.
God wants us to let this light shine, not so much with good words as with good works. A good work is meeting a basic need in the life of another person and, where ever possible, letting other people get the credit for it.
Doing good in this way will allow people to see that we have a genuine love for them and no motive of personal gain. After they are attracted by our good works(light), they will ask for “a reason of the hope that is in you” and will be much more attentive and responsive to the words of the Good News – the Gospel message of Jesus the Christ.
Letting our light shine reveals to us that all we had belongs to God and is given to us for using for his purposes.
Obeying this command develops generosity in our character and eliminates stinginess and meanness.”
