The 7th command Jesus gave was – Do Not Lust

November 8, 2019

Bible Teaching for Today

“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”
  • Matthew 5:28-30

Comment about this Command

“This command emphasises the tragedy of lasting. It is unthinkable that a rational person would pluck out his right eye a or cut off his right hand. It should be even more unthinkable for a man or woman to lust after another.

In our “evil and adulterous generation” we have become calloused to immorality and have accepted lust as a perfectly normal and harmless activity. Our consciences have been dulled to any sense of danger or any terminal damage.

Lust is not a “victimless crime.” There are mental, emotional, physical, financial, and spiritual consequences affecting every person who is directly or indirectly connected to our lives, including our family, our descendants, and the Body of Christ.
“For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.”
~Romans 14:7

With this command we need to develop and practice instant obedience to the initial promptings of God’s Spirit. Avoiding lust develops in our character self-control and doing nothing enhances self-indulgence.”

Quotes for Today

God made you unique with gifts and talents to help others.
Recognise your gifts and help someone today.”

Mother Basilea Schlink’s Attitude for Today

"Take care that the salt of love is not missing from your words and actions. It is like a nugget of gold that will weigh much when your words and deeds are weighed in eternity. So take care that it be found in all that you say and do."

Proverb for Today

“An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.”
  • Proverbs 18:1

Word from Scripture for Today

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour..."
