Passage from The Bible for Today
2 Samuel 12:1-27
Comment on Today’s Reading is by Gerald Mann
“Ever read the Bible about David’s moral wreck? I call it Bathshebagate. It involved hanky-panky, adultery, and even the murder of Bathsheba’s husband . . . David was exposed. His past righteousness and achievement were nullified.
But now read Psalm 51. David did the only thing you can do when you’re caught red-handed. He confessed and asked for a new heart to replace the old one . . . a spiritual and moral transplant. . . You can begin again after moral failure.”
Gerald Mann – The Riverbend Church pastor has been accused of preaching too much about God's grace and de-emphasizing moral law. Mann reaches out to congregants who are wary of traditional religion, speaks informally during sermons. Mann believes God "won't give up on us."
Quote for Today
“We don't need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.”
Mother Basilea Schlink’s Attitude for Today
"Do not sleep. There is no condition more dangerous than that of sleepiness. Only when you are awake, can you wage a battle. Therefore, be on the alert and fight, so that your life will speak of victory. For only when there has been a battle, can there be victory. And the victors, the over comers, are those who will be shown great honour and glory when they enter heaven."
Mother Basilea Schlink
Proverb for Today
“Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value the one who speaks what is right.”
Word from Scripture for Today
“Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."”
