Bible Scripture for Today

WORD FROM THE BIBLE FOR TODAY

  • "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"
    * Luke 11:13 (NIV®)

REFLECTION
“Jesus’ disciples had spent three years with Him, but they still were unprepared to carry on His ministry without Him. Jesus knew it, and they knew it. Even watching Him die on a cross and be raised to life again was not enough. That’s why He told them not to begin ministering on their own until help came, and He would send it in the Person of the Holy Spirit—their Counselor, Teacher, Comforter, Guide. Jesus told them the Holy Spirit would remind them of the things He had said and show them the truth. If Peter, James, John, and the other disciples needed to ask the Holy Spirit for help, I’m sure you and I need His help, too.”

THINK ABOUT IT

The Holy Spirit empowers us and prays through us, enabling us to be Jesus’ ambassador in the world around us. We need His help to fulfill our God-assignment.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I need the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit in every aspect of my life. I repent of doing things my way or in the power of my will. Help me have a greater awareness of the Holy Spirit so I might accomplish Your will in a way that pleases and honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
