BIBLE READING FOR TODAY
Genesis 1:26-27
"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
- Genesis 1:26-27
This passage establishes man's dignity and purpose as God's creation, bearing His image and having dominion over the earth.
"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings."
"Then to Adam He said, 'Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, "You shall not eat of it": Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.'"
- Genesis 3:6-7, 17-19 (The Fall of Man)
This highlights the fall of man into sin and separation from God, which distorts the image of God in man and brings death, both physical and spiritual.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
- Romans 3:23 (All have sinned)
This underscores that all humanity is sinful and cannot reach God's standard of holiness on its own.
REFLECTION
MANKIND BY HUMAN NATURE IS AN IMPERFECT BEING
According to the Bible, man is uniquely created in the image of God, distinct from the rest of creation. Human beings are described as having both a physical and spiritual nature, designed for relationship with God and with each other. They are granted stewardship over the earth and its creatures, meant to care for and cultivate the world. However, humans are also depicted as inherently flawed due to the presence of sin, which separates them from God. Despite this, the Bible teaches that humans have inherent value and worth, and God offers redemption and reconciliation through faith in His one and only Son - JESUS. Man's purpose, as outlined in the Bible, is to love and serve God, to live in harmony with others, and to fulfill the calling placed upon them by their Creator.
WHO IS MAN?
MANKIND BY HUMAN NATURE IS AN IMPERFECT BEING
“Correction and discipline are good for children. If they have their own way, they will make their mothers ashamed of them.”
Proverbs 29:15
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:21
"Treat others the way you would have them treat you. Then you will fulfil one of the two greatest commandments - to love your neighbour as yourself. And you will be blessed by God."
