WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV®)

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.””

REFLECTION

CONTENTMENT

If you live in America, you are blessed. Virtually any food we want is available to us. We have closets packed with clothes, and shoes, and accessories. We have options for schooling. We have the freedom to choose a career and excel in it. We can live in the community of our choice and travel freely. Yet, we are a very discontented people. I read a survey that said no matter how much we have, we want twenty-five percent more. Aren’t we all a little guilty of that? We’re not sure how much is enough, but we know we don’t have it yet. The Bible cautions against the “More!” attitude and encourages contentment. The writer of Hebrews says, “Don’t love money!” and reminds us that God has promised to meet our every need. Contentment cannot be bought; it is a gift from God. Out of His love for us, He offers it freely and promises, no matter our circumstances, He will never leave us nor forsake us.

PEACE & CONTENTMENT

CONTENTMENT

THINK ABOUT IT

Peace and contentment do not come to us through more resources. Peace and contentment come when we learn to guard our thoughts and allow them to be directed by God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are the source of my hope. I put my trust in You. When I am alone or afraid, I will look to You for comfort. May Your Holy Spirit bring peace and contentment to me. I rejoice in the faithfulness and provision of my God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROVERB FOR TODAY

“An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.”

WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

“You were chosen according to the purpose of God the Father and were made a holy people by his Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be purified by his blood. May grace and peace be yours in full measure. Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! Because of his great mercy he gave us new life by raising Jesus Christ from death. This fills us with a living hope, and so we look forward to possessing the rich blessings that God keeps for his people. He keeps them for you in heaven, where they cannot decay or spoil or fade away. They are for you, who through faith are kept safe by God's power for the salvation which is ready to be revealed at the end of time.”
