WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Lamentations 3:25-26 (NLT®)

“The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD.”

REFLECTION

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT GOD LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU

The book of Lamentations is a collection of poems written by the prophet, Jeremiah, to mourn the conquest of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. God’s people had seen the center of their world crumble. Jerusalem was at the very heart of their spiritual and political identity. “What now?” they must have thought. “Where do we go from here?” Jeremiah doesn’t have all the answers, but he does know this: God is good to those who depend on Him and search for Him, so it is good to wait on the Lord. I meet people too frequently who have disengaged from the Lord because some circumstance beyond their understanding was forced upon them. They have a “why” that is overwhelming or simply cannot be answered to their satisfaction. If you are in that place, don’t withdraw from God. Instead, say, “Lord, I’m going to follow You, even if I don’t understand. Now, I only know in part, but someday I will know fully. Until that day, I will trust You.”

THE GOODNESS OF WAITING

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT GOD LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU

THINK ABOUT IT

As humans, we have limited understanding. As Christians, we trust God when we do not understand how our suffering fits in with His plan.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for watching over my life with grace and mercy. Grant me courage to turn away from ungodliness and toward You, quietly waiting. I am dependent on Your strength and power to follow You in a way that brings You honor. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PROVERB FOR TODAY

“Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.”

WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

“Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”

MOTHER BASILEA SCHLINK’S ATTITUDE FOR TODAY

"Do not lose yourself in your everyday work and activities. Rather, lose yourself in God. When you are doing your work, let your innermost heart be centred on Him. Live in His presence and abide in Him. Then your work will follow you into eternity and you will reap a rich harvest."
