WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NIV®)

“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.”

REFLECTION

I HAVE A CHOICE TO MOVE CLOSER TO JESUS, TO MOVE AWAY FROM HIM, OR TO STAY WHERE I AM

One of the things a global pandemic has reminded me of is that people still have the ability to choose their relationship with the Lord. The Israelites had been delivered and blessed by God time and again, but Moses still had to remind them of that, and call them to decide whether they would be faithful to God or not. I know, in my heart, I want to be closer to the Lord today than I was yesterday and closer to Him tomorrow than I am today. But God has given each of us free will, so that requires me to make a choice. I can choose to move closer to Him, to move away from Him, or to stay where I am. No friend, leader, or organization can make this decision for me. Each day, the decision is up to me.

THINK ABOUT IT

We each have to accept personal responsibility for our spiritual condition, and then we have to make a choice.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me recognize any limitations to Your purposes for me. I choose life and obedience. I choose Jesus as my Lord. I choose to complete the course designed for me. Grant me strength and courage to align my will with Your invitations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
