WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Psalm 40:9-10 (NIV®)

“I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, Lord, as you know. I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness from the great assembly.”

REFLECTION

HAVE COURAGE TO OWN OUR JESUS-STORIES AND TELL THEM

We know we should use every opportunity to tell what Jesus delivered us from and what He has brought us to. We should be eager to talk about what He has done for us and what He can do for others. But it takes courage to own your story among people who won’t always embrace it. We know we’ll sometimes be met with rolling eyes, a sarcastic comment, or even an insult. Here, David proclaimed his eagerness to tell what God had done for him, even among a great crowd of people. Jesus certainly never hesitated to tell what God could do. It takes bravery to follow the Lord and endure the scrutiny and comments of others. But if we will ask, the Holy Spirit will give us the courage to own our Jesus-stories and tell them.

THINK ABOUT IT

What might have inspired David to proclaim his God-stories so boldly?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your truth and Word. You created me for Your purposes—may my life bring glory to the King of kings. Give me an understanding heart, the boldness to proclaim Jesus as Lord, and the wisdom to be effective. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
