Quote for Today

“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveller back to his own fireside and quiet home!”

WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY

Luke 10:21 (NIV®)

“Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.””

REFLECTION

JESUS BROKE INTO A JOYFUL PRAYER TO HIS FATHER

Luke 10 tells us Jesus appointed 72 people in addition to the 12 disciples and sent them out as advance teams to every town He planned to visit. He warned them that, while they would be “like lambs among wolves” and face rejection, they were to heal the sick and tell the people God’s Kingdom was near. When they returned, they were happy because God’s power had been shown through them, and even demons had submitted to them. Jesus cautioned them about having pride in their spiritual authority, and then He broke into a joyful prayer to His Father, thanking Him for revealing Himself to these ordinary people and using them so mightily. This account should cause us to wonder, “Do I have any misplaced pride in my spiritual authority? What am I doing that causes Jesus to be filled with joy?”

CAUSE FOR JOY

JESUS BROKE INTO A JOYFUL PRAYER TO HIS FATHER

THINK ABOUT IT

Avoid the temptation to be puffed up in how God moves through you to touch others. But rather, with thanksgiving, give God all the glory and honour. It will bring Him joy!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I choose to honour You with my whole heart. Open the eyes of my understanding that I may know You better. May I have a heart that always seeks after and honours You, causing You to smile with joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
