WORD FROM SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY
Revelation 3:17-18 (NIV®)
“You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.”
REFLECTION
WHAT ARE YOU DEPENDING ON?
Jesus’ message to the church at Laodicea has much to say to us. Laodicea was an important, wealthy city known for a medical school and an eye salve that was produced from local stone. In the economy of the day, they would appear to have it all. “But you don’t recognize your true condition,” Jesus said. The reality is that while they had all the trappings of wealth, He judged them to be “wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” These folks had allowed their thinking to be clouded by their prestige and their abundant resources. I’m concerned we sometimes do the same. Stop and consider what you are depending on. Is it your investments? Your successful career? Or is it your relationship with Jesus?

When choosing in what to trust or in whom to rely—it is beneficial to recognize that all things and people can falter, but God will never fail us.
