WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Hosea 10:12 (NIV®)

“Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.”

REFLECTION

WE MUST BREAK UP THAT HARD GROUND OF OUR HEARTS AND SOW THE SEEDS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

I look forward to spring arriving and fruit and vegetable seeds appearing in stores. Little packets with brightly colored photos promise tomatoes, peppers, beans, strawberries, and more. But there is a tremendous amount of hard work between buying those packets of seeds and reaping the harvest shown in the photos. We have to break up the soil, get rid of rocks and weeds, and make rows and hills. After the seeds are in the ground, we water, fertilize, and pull more weeds. We will invest many hours of work tending those plants in order to reap a harvest. That is a little like the Christian life. Our hearts are naturally hard and prone to sin, so we must break up that hard ground, sow the seeds of righteousness, and keep pulling weeds. The Lord has promised that when we are faithful to invest ourselves in these ongoing but necessary tasks, He will be faithful to reward us with a bountiful harvest of His righteousness.

SOWING TO REAP

WE MUST BREAK UP THAT HARD GROUND OF OUR HEARTS AND SOW THE SEEDS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

THINK ABOUT IT

Reflect on Jesus’ parable in Matthew, chapter 13, about sowing seed in good soil. It cannot help but bear fruit and produce a crop—up to hundredfold. That is a lot!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us of the principle of seedtime and harvest and for allowing me to work in Your fields. May Your Spirit once again rain righteousness upon us and fill our lives to bring forth a harvest of much good fruit for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
