WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY
Galatians 2:20 (NIV®)
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
REFLECTION
UNDERSTANDING JESUS’ DEATH ON THE CROSS IS FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR FAITH.
Understanding Jesus’ death on the cross is fundamental to our faith. Jesus’ death on the cross tells us sin is real. It tells us there is good and evil, right and wrong, and we cannot call immoral behavior a choice or a preference. Jesus’ death on the cross reminds us we are unable to save ourselves and need a sacrifice unstained by sin. That is why Jesus’ crucifixion is called the Great Exchange—when the sinless Son of God took our place and received the punishment we deserved, so we could receive the reward He deserved. If we accept Jesus as our Savior, it is as if we have been crucified with Him. We no longer live for ourselves, but for Him. We display a transformation only possible through the blood of Jesus. This is the most amazing gift our world has ever known, and it is freely available to each of us.
