WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Hebrews 9:27–28

“Just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”

REFLECTION

WHAT CHRIST WILL DO AT THE SECOND COMING

“The death of Jesus bears sins. This is the very heart of Christianity, and the heart of the gospel, and the heart of God’s great work of redemption in the world. When Christ died he bore sins. He took sins not his own. He suffered for sins that others had done, so that they could be free from sins.
This is the answer to the greatest problem in your life, whether you feel it as the main problem or not. There is an answer to how we can get right with God in spite of being sinners. The answer is that Christ’s death is an offering “to bear the sins of many.” He lifted our sins and carried them to the cross and died there the death that we deserved to die.
Now what does this mean for my dying? “It is appointed [to me] to die once.” It means that my death is no longer punitive. My death is no longer a punishment for sin. My sin has been borne away. My sin is “put away” by the death of Christ. Christ took the punishment.
Why then do I die at all? Because God wills that death remain in the world for now, even among his own children, as an abiding testimony to the extreme horror of sin. In our dying we still manifest the external effects of sin in the world.
But death for God’s children is no longer his wrath against them. It has become our entrance into salvation not condemnation.”

WHAT JESUS DID TO DEATH

WHAT CHRIST WILL DO AT THE SECOND COMING

THINK ABOUT IT

Here are five truths we need to think about: 1. Life is Temporary, and Judgment is Certain – Hebrews 9:27 reminds us that death is inevitable, and after that comes judgment. We must be in the right relationship with God because our eternal destiny depends on it. 2. Jesus Has Already Paid for Our Sins – Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, meaning salvation is available now, but we must accept it through faith and repentance. Rejecting this grace leaves us unprepared for eternity. 3. Christ Will Return to Save His Own – When Jesus comes again, it will not be to deal with sin but to bring salvation to those eagerly waiting for Him. Being in the right relationship with God ensures that we are ready for His return. 4. Eternal Separation or Eternal Life – Without Christ, we face judgment and eternal separation from God, but with Him, we receive eternal life. Our choice today determines our eternity. 5. Now is the Time to Surrender to God – Since we don’t know when our time will come, we must not delay in seeking God, repenting of sin, and living in obedience, eagerly anticipating Christ’s return.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a humble heart, acknowledging that I am a sinner in need of Your mercy. Your Word says that all have sinned and fallen short of Your glory, and I know that apart from You, I am lost. But I thank You for Your incredible love, for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins and to rise again so that I may have eternal life. Lord, I repent of my sins. I turn away from everything that separates me from You, and I ask for Your forgiveness. Wash me clean by the blood of Jesus and make me new. I believe that Jesus is Your Son, that He died for me, and that He rose again. I place my trust in Him as my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and guide me in Your truth. Help me to live for You each day, walking in obedience and faith. Strengthen me to turn away from sin and to follow You with all my heart. Thank You for the gift of salvation and for the promise of eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
