WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Acts 23:12

“When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.”

REFLECTION

NOTHING STANDS AGAINST CHRIST

“What about those hungry fellows who promised not to eat till they had ambushed Paul?
We read about them in Acts 23:12, “When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.” It didn’t work. Why? Because a string of unlikely events happened.
A boy overheard the plot.
The boy was the son of Paul’s sister.
The boy had the courage to go to the Roman centurion guarding Paul.
The centurion took him seriously and brought him to the tribune.
The tribune believed him and prepared “two hundred soldiers, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen” to take Paul to safety.
Every one of those events was highly unlikely. Strange. But that’s what happened.
What had those hungry men lying in ambush overlooked? They failed to reckon with what happened to Paul just before they made their plot. The Lord appeared to Paul in prison and said, “Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome” (Acts 23:11).
Christ said Paul was going to Rome. And that was that. No ambush can stand against the promise of Christ. Until he got to Rome, Paul was immortal. There was a final testimony to be given. And Christ would see to it that Paul would give it.
You too have final testimony to give. And you are immortal until you give it.”

WHEN YOU ARE IMMORTAL

NOTHING STANDS AGAINST CHRIST

THINK ABOUT IT

• God’s Sovereignty Over Opposition – Paul faced fierce opposition, yet God’s plan for his life could not be stopped. As followers of Christ, we must trust that no scheme of the enemy can derail God’s purpose for us (Isaiah 54:17). • Persecution is Inevitable – Paul’s life reminds us that living for Christ will bring resistance. Jesus warned that His followers would face trials (John 16:33), so we should be prepared to endure hardship for the sake of the gospel. • God Provides Unexpected Help – Paul’s rescue came through unlikely means, including his nephew overhearing the plot (Acts 23:16). This shows that God often works through people and circumstances we least expect to accomplish His will. • Faithfulness Over Fear – Despite constant threats, Paul remained steadfast in his mission. We should likewise remain faithful, trusting God’s protection and boldly proclaiming the gospel, knowing that He is always in control.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart that longs to trust You completely. You have called me for a purpose, and though I may not always see the path ahead, I know that Your plans are perfect. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight, surrendering my fears, doubts, and insecurities to You. When challenges arise and the road seems uncertain, remind me that You are sovereign and that nothing can stand against Your will. Fill me with boldness and unwavering faith, just as You did with Paul, so that I may follow Your calling with courage and obedience. Strengthen my heart to trust in Your timing, Your provision, and Your guidance, knowing that You are leading me for Your glory. Lord, let my life be a testimony of Your power and grace. Keep me humble and steadfast, always seeking to honour You in all that I do. No matter what lies ahead, I choose to trust You fully, believing that Your plans for me are good. I surrender all to You, my faithful God and King. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
