WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Mark 10:45

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

REFLECTION

JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE TO SERVE!

“Not only was he the servant of his people while he lived on earth, but he will also be our servant when he comes again. “Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them” (Luke 12:37). Jesus gave that as a picture of what he will do at his return.
Not only that, he is our servant now. “‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:5–6).
Does this belittle the risen Christ — to say that he was and is and will ever be the servant of his people? It would, if “servant” meant “one who takes orders,” or if we thought we were his masters. Yes, that would dishonour him. But it does not dishonor him to say that we are weak and need his help.
It does not dishonour him to say that he is the only one who can service us with what we need most.
It does not dishonour him to say that he is an inexhaustible spring of love, and that the more he helps us and the more we depend on his service, the more amazing his resources appear. Therefore, we can confidently say, “Jesus Christ is alive to serve!”
He is alive to save. He is alive to give. And he is thrilled to be this way.
He is not burdened down with your cares. He thrives on burden-bearing, not burden-giving. He loves to work “for those who wait for him” (Isaiah 64:4). He “takes pleasure . . . in those who hope in his steadfast love” (Psalm 147:11). His eyes “run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Jesus Christ is exuberant with omnipotent service for the sake of all who trust him.”

OUR SERVANT, JESUS

JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE TO SERVE!

THINK ABOUT IT

Mark 10:45 is a powerful reminder of Jesus' mission and the mindset we, as His followers, should have. Here are four key responses we should consider and apply to our daily walk with Christ: 1. Embrace a Servant's Heart Jesus, the King of Kings, came to serve rather than to be served. As His followers, we are called to adopt the same attitude—putting others before ourselves and seeking ways to humbly serve in our families, churches, and communities (Philippians 2:3-4). 2. Sacrificial Love Jesus gave His life as a ransom, demonstrating the ultimate act of love. We should be willing to sacrifice our time, comfort, and resources to love and care for others, just as He did (John 15:13). 3. Live with a Mission Mindset Jesus lived with a clear purpose: to redeem and restore people to God. We should also live with intentionality, sharing the gospel, making disciples, and pointing others to Christ through our words and actions (Matthew 28:19-20). 4. Walk in Humility Jesus humbled Himself, even to the point of death on a cross (Philippians 2:5-8). We are called to reject pride and selfish ambition, choosing instead to serve others with humility, no matter our status or position. 5. Trust in Christ’s Sacrifice Jesus’ ransom secured our salvation. Our response should be gratitude, faith, and complete reliance on His finished work rather than our own efforts (Ephesians 2:8-9).

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I come before You in awe of Your love and grace. Thank You for sending Jesus, who came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for me. Lord, I desire to follow His example, but I confess that my heart often seeks comfort, recognition, and my own way. Please transform me, that I may live as He lived and love as He loved. Father, give me a servant’s heart. Teach me to put others before myself, to see needs around me, and to respond with compassion. Help me to serve not out of obligation, but out of love, just as Jesus did. Let my hands be willing, my heart be open, and my spirit be joyful in serving, whether seen or unseen. Lord, fill me with sacrificial love. May I love as Jesus loved—selflessly, unconditionally, and generously. Give me the strength to lay aside my own desires for the sake of others, to forgive as You have forgiven me, and to pour out my life in ways that glorify You. Let my love be more than words—let it be action. Father, give me a mission mindset. Let me not live aimlessly, but with the purpose of advancing Your Kingdom. Open my eyes to the lost, the broken, and the hurting. Give me courage to share the gospel, wisdom to disciple others, and boldness to live unashamed for You. May my life point others to Jesus. Lord, clothe me in humility. Break the pride in me, the selfish ambition, the need for recognition. Teach me to find joy in serving others without expecting anything in return. Remind me that true greatness in Your Kingdom is found in humility and surrender. Finally, Father, help me to fully trust in Christ’s sacrifice. When I strive in my own strength, remind me that Jesus has already paid the price. Let my faith rest in His finished work, and let gratitude overflow from my heart. Keep me close to You, relying not on my efforts, but on Your grace alone. Lord, I am Yours. Shape me, mold me, and use me for Your glory. May my life reflect the heart of Jesus. In His precious name, I pray. Amen.
