WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

Genesis 49:24

“His bow remained unmoved; his arms were made agile by the hands of the mighty one of Jacob.”

REFLECTION

WHY DOES JOSEPH STAND AGAINST TEMPTATION? BECAUSE GOD ENABLES HIM.

The strength that God gives to His Josephs is real strength; it is not a boasted valor, a fiction, a thing of which men talk but which ends in smoke; it is true—divine strength.

Why does Joseph stand against temptation? Because God enables him. There is nothing that we can do without the power of God. All true strength comes from “the Mighty One of Jacob.” Notice in what a blessedly familiar way God gives this strength to Joseph—“His arms were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob.” God is represented as putting His hands on Joseph’s hands, placing His arms on Joseph’s arms. Just as a father teaches his children, so the Lord teaches them that fear Him. He puts His arms upon them. Marvelous condescension! God Almighty, Eternal, Omnipotent, stoops from His throne and lays His hand upon the child’s hand, stretching His arm upon the arm of Joseph, that he may be made strong!

This strength was also covenant strength, for it is ascribed to “the Mighty One of Jacob.” Now, wherever you read of the God of Jacob in the Bible, you should remember the covenant with Jacob. Christians love to think of God’s covenant. All the power, all the grace, all the blessings, all the mercies, all the comforts, all the things we have flow to us from the fountainhead, through the covenant. If there were no covenant, then we should fail indeed; for all grace proceeds from it, as light and heat from the sun. No angels ascend or descend except by the ladder that Jacob saw, at the top of which stood a covenant God. Christian, it may be that the archers have sorely grieved you and shot at you and wounded you, but still your bow remains unmoved. Be sure, then, to ascribe all the glory to Jacob’s God.

THE MIGHTY ONE

WHY DOES JOSEPH STAND AGAINST TEMPTATION? BECAUSE GOD ENABLES HIM.

THINK ABOUT IT

Here are five key points about Jesus and the power of God that raised Him from the dead: 1. Jesus' Resurrection Demonstrates God's Supreme Power Romans 1:4 says that Jesus "was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead." The same power that raised Jesus is at work in believers (Ephesians 1:19-20). 2. The Holy Spirit was the Power Behind the Resurrection Romans 8:11 states, “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” The resurrection was not just an event but a display of the Holy Spirit’s divine power. 3. Victory Over Sin, Death, and the Grave 1 Corinthians 15:55-57 declares, “O death, where is your victory? O grave, where is your sting?” Jesus’ resurrection is proof that God has conquered sin and death, offering eternal life to those who believe in Him (John 11:25). 4. The Resurrection Validates Jesus' Identity as the Son of God Jesus Himself said, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up” (John 2:19), referring to His body. His resurrection fulfilled prophecy and confirmed His divine nature (Luke 24:46). 5. That Same Resurrection Power is Available to Believers Ephesians 1:19-20 tells us that the "immeasurable greatness of his power" that raised Jesus is at work in believers. Through faith in Christ, we have access to this power for spiritual renewal, transformation, and victory in our lives.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Almighty God, I come before You with a humble and broken heart, knowing that I am a sinner in need of Your mercy. You are holy, righteous, and full of grace, and yet, in my weakness, I have fallen short of Your glory. But Your Word declares that You are rich in mercy and full of unfailing love. Lord, I cry out to You! Have mercy on me according to Your great compassion. Wash me clean from all my iniquities and forgive me for every thought, word, and deed that has dishonored You. I repent, O God, and turn away from my sin. Create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, but draw me near by Your saving grace. Jesus, my Saviour, I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that the power of God raised You from the dead. You conquered sin, death, and the grave so that I could be free! I put my trust in You alone. Cover me with Your precious blood, and let Your righteousness be my garment. Be the Lord of my life, my refuge, and my salvation. Holy Spirit, come and dwell within me. Lead me in the path of righteousness and fill me with the power to walk in obedience to You. Let my life be a testimony of Your saving grace. I surrender all to You, Lord—my past, my present, and my future. Write my name in the Book of Life, and keep me in Your perfect will until the day I stand before You in glory. Thank You, Father, for hearing my prayer. Thank You, Jesus, for Your unfailing love. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for making me new. I am Yours forever. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray. Amen.
