WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY
Matthew 18:3 (NIV®)
“He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.””
REFLECTION
TO CHANGE—WE NEED TO BECOME LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN AGAIN
Many years ago, some friends who are serious hunters invited me to go skeet shooting. I am no marksman, but I decided to give it a try. As they ran to hide behind their vehicles while I took a turn, I was reminded that learning can be awkward, even among friends. Have you noticed young children don’t feel that way? They are small and physically weak, but eager to learn and confident they can do anything! The disciples had been with Jesus for a while, but they still needed to grasp their need to learn and change—they needed to become like little children again. It’s tempting for us to take a pass on learning something new. It’s easier to stay where we are and be comfortable. But God will always invite us to do things we have never done before. When we are willing to say yes and learn more about His power to change us and work through us, we will be more fulfilled as believers and more useful in His Kingdom.
