WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY

James 4:8 (NIV®)

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

REFLECTION

DO NOT LET YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD TAKE A BACK SEAT

When I was in college, I learned my final grades often would be determined by what I did in the last few weeks of the semester. That meant I had several weeks to have fun before I had to settle down and get focused. But when crunch time came, I was all in. It was amazing how much I could memorize in order to spit it back out the next day, even if I didn’t remember much of it later. I’ve seen some of that attitude in Christians. We’re not really that interested in a relationship with God until something happens, and we hit crunch time. Suddenly, we’re reading the Bible with intensity, and prayer becomes very important. Then, after the crisis has passed, we’re back to a casual attitude about spiritual things. I urge you to not let your relationship with the Lord take a back seat until you need Him. When a crisis comes, you want to feel like you’re communicating with your dearest friend, not a professor you need to please for a few days of the year.

CRUNCH TIME EVERY DAY

DO NOT LET YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD TAKE A BACK SEAT

THINK ABOUT IT

God is always ready to move in closer to those who pursue Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You welcome those who seek You and respond to them with expressions of grace and mercy. Forgive me for when I have pursued my agenda and neglected Yours. I entrust myself into Your care. May I be found pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
