WORD FROM THE HOLY BIBLE FOR TODAY
Proverbs 4:23 (NIV®)
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
REFLECTION
GOD SAYS GUARDING OUR HEARTS IS NUMBER ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR LIVES WITH HIM
We are pretty serious about guarding things—have you noticed? We guard our children, our cars, our investments, our houses, and our health. I’m not opposed to those things. In fact, I think we should do all of them. But as important as they are, God says guarding our hearts is more important. Why? Because your heart is the center of your whole story. How do we guard our hearts? The first thing that comes to mind is guarding against things we recognize as sins—like lust, greed, and envy. But we also need to guard against things that can steal our joy and peace—things like anger, hatred, resentment, and bitterness. Take time and ask the Holy Spirit to help you do a personal inventory. Look backward and think about what has jeopardized your joy, peace, and contentment. Where the Spirit reveals an attitude or behavior that could cause “heart problems,” ask for His help in replacing it with an attitude or behavior that will help you guard your heart.

GOD SAYS GUARDING OUR HEARTS IS NUMBER ONE IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR LIVES WITH HIM
What we allow into our hearts is reflected in the way we live our lives. Protect your heart and allow God to direct your steps.

Heavenly Father, awaken me to understand Your grace and mercy toward my life. Forgive me for when I have been anxious, ungrateful, resentful, or unforgiving. I resolve to guard my heart so Your peace might flourish. May Your power bring deliverance and life to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
