HOLY BIBLE

Word from the Bible for Today

“‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’”

REFLECTION

”Whether you want to buy a new pair of running shoes or find the best donuts in town, people will be glad to share their opinions. No one can really say whether those opinions are right or wrong, however, because they are based on personal preferences. But there are some things about which your opinion and mine do not matter, because the Bible gives a clear answer. Is it right to honour your parents? Yes. Is it right to commit adultery? No. Is it right to protect vulnerable children? Yes. Is it right to steal? No. Let’s be careful not to make allowances for our personal opinions or desires where matters like these are concerned. The Bible gives clear answers on many of life’s questions. Where it does not give a specific answer, Jesus’ instruction to love Him with our intellect, our emotions, and our energy, then love our neighbors as we love ourselves, will cover the rest.”

THINK ABOUT IT

Our love for God expresses itself through our love for His Word, His truth, and His people.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help my love increasingly flourish, with knowledge and discernment, so I will agree with what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ—filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to Your glory and praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen. (Adapted, Philippians 1:9-11)

Mother Basilea Schlink’s Attitude for Today

“Let your heart brim over with never-ending forgiveness for your neighbour, even when he wrongs you time and again. And God will bathe you in his mercy and let you drink from his rivers of delight."
