HOPE AND MEANING TO LIFE

Word from the Bible for Today

“We have put our hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all people.”

  • 1 Timothy 4:10 (NIV®)

REFLECTION

“We’ve all heard songs and seen clever sayings about changing the world, and Jesus-followers should be more focused on that than anyone. Our congregation decided to call itself World Outreach Church when that seemed like an impossibly ambitious goal. Today, by God’s grace, we truly are reaching the nations of the world with the gospel. But we should not become so world-focused that we forget to act locally. Many people we know are searching for hope and meaning for their lives. I encourage you to tell your neighbors, and the other people you interact with regularly, about your spiritual journey. Invite them to come to church with you. Do not take for granted they are too busy and have no desire to know the hope and peace that come from a personal relationship with Jesus. It may feel awkward, but we are called to share the good news of the gospel and what Jesus has done for us. That is how change usually begins, after all—one conversation at a time.”

THINK ABOUT IT

Ask the Lord to open effectual doors of opportunity to share what God has done for you with those closest to you. You might be surprised at their response.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God of hope and for sending Your only Son as a savior from death and destruction. Help me seek openings to effectively share Your good news of redemption. Allow me the strength to endure, wisdom to choose Your pathway, and boldness to tell the truth openly so Jesus’ name might be exalted in every conversation I have. In His name, Amen.

Mother Basilea Schlink’s Attitude for Today

Do not be lazy. run each day's race with all your might, so that at the end you will receive the victory wreath from God. Keep on running even when you have had a fall. The victory wreath is won by him who does not stay down, but always gets up again, grasps the banner of faith and keeps on running in the assurance that Jesus is victor!
